
Vangelis Marinakis
President of Develop Athens S.A.
Vangelis Marinakis is President of Develop Athens S.A. and Assistant Professor at the School of Electrical and Computer Engineering of the National Technical University of Athens (NTUA).
He previously served as President of the City of Athens’ Development Company for IT and Operational Units of Local Government, contributing to digital transformation and operational modernization initiatives.
Dr. Marinakis holds a Diploma in Electrical and Computer Engineering and a PhD in Decision Support Systems for sustainable energy planning. His research centres on designing and developing advanced methodologies and decision support systems that leverage the Internet of Things (IoT), Artificial Intelligence (AI), Big Data analytics, and Data Spaces to enable intelligent energy management across smart homes, buildings, districts, and grids.
His expertise also encompasses energy efficiency, renewable energy integration, and climate resilience strategies for urban and regional systems. With more than 20 years of professional experience, he has served as Project Coordinator or Principal Investigator in over 45 European and nationally funded research projects.
He is Co-Editor-in-Chief of the international scientific journal Energy Sources, Part B: Economics, Planning and Policy, and has authored more than 100 peer-reviewed publications. His books include Energy Management and Environmental Policy and Artificial Intelligence for Energy Systems: Driving Intelligent, Flexible and Optimal Energy Management, along with numerous book chapters and conference papers.
