
Father Ioannis Kapsomenakis

Fr. Ioannis Kapsomenakis is a Physicist with a PhD in Climatology and Senior Researcher at the Research Centre for Atmospheric Physics and Climatology of the Academy of Athens, specialising in climate and planetary change. His research focuses on the monitoring, modelling and physical interpretation of climate variability, with particular emphasis on the Mediterranean region and Greece. He was a member of the Climate Change Impacts Study Committee (ΕΜΕΚΑ) of the Bank of Greece, whose landmark 2011 report provided the scientific foundation for Greek climate legislation. He has contributed to major European research programmes, including the Copernicus Atmosphere Monitoring Service (CAMS) for atmospheric composition monitoring and validation, and the LIFE-IP AdaptInGR project for the development of national climate change adaptation strategies. His scientific work has accumulated over 2,200 citations in the international literature.
