Georgios Gatopoulos
Head of International Macroeconomics and Finance Unit, Foundation for Economic and Industrial Research (IOBE)
Born in 1980. Georgios studied at the Athens University of Economics and Business (BSc), at the London School of Economics (MSc) and at the University of Geneva (PhD). As a senior economist at IOBE during the last five years, he has supervised various studies in relation to labor and capital markets, social security, the banking system, privatizations, electronic payments, including through benchmarking Greek economy and policy trends with international good practices. As an economist at the International Monetary Fund during 2010-2017, in the context of three consecutive bailout programmes on Greece, he contributed to policy analysis, monitoring and impact assessment in relation to financial, structural, fiscal and public administration reforms. He has published work in peer-reviewed conferences and journals such as Journal of International Money and Finance, CESifo Economic Studies, European Research Studies. He has contributed to collective volumes of organizations such as the European Commission, the IMF, the OECD and IOBE. Since 2017, he has been teaching economics at the American College of Greece (Deree).
