Apostolos Michalopoulos

Mr. Apostolos Michalopoulos, First Counsellor for Economic and Commercial Affairs, is a graduate of the Department of Political Science and Public Administration of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens (Department of International Relations and European Studies). He holds a Master’s Degree in European Studies from the University of Reading, England (MA in European Studies). He is also a graduate of the 8th biannual training course of the National School of Public Administration-NSPA (Section of Economic and Commercial Affairs). He has served at the Offices for Economic and Commercial Affairs in Stockholm (1999-2001), Ljubljana (2001-2006), Budapest (2010-2016) and Johannesburg (2016-2020), in the last two as Head of the Office, as well as in Ministry’s Head Offices in Athens (2006-2010 and 2020-2024). Since 2021 and onwards he is Director of B1 Directorate, in charge of, among others, promoting extroversion and international trade, coordinating and monitoring of extroversion entities(Enterprise Greece-EG and Export Credit Greece-ECG), monitoring the safeguard of products of Protected Designation of Origin and Geographical Indications(PDO/PGI) abroad, informing the national business entities (Chambers, Unions, Associations, etc.) on matters of economic diplomacy, monitoring the work of the Bureau International des Expositions-BIE, etc. He speaks Greek, English, French and some Spanish.
