Dr George Georgiou, is acting Director General of Financial Audits within the Ministry of National Economy and Finance, and Chairman ex officio of the Audit Coordination Committee. He holds a PhD in the field of financial planning from Strathclyde University, Scotland, UK. He is a Certified Government Audit Professional, Certified Internal Control Auditor, Certified Control Specialist, and Certified Fraud Examiner.
He has served in various posts in the European Institutions as an expert on European Financial Affairs, Budget and Internal Audit within the European Defense Agency, who served for seven years as the first Internal Auditor. He is the author of two books on Internal Audit and Performance audit. For his services has been awarded by the Minister of Finance, the Chief Executive of European Defence Agency and the Polish Institute of Internal Controls.
Recently his General Directorate who is Heading received two Gold Awards on Compliance and risk management based on the achievements and audit methodology.
He has published a numerous of articles related to financial and audit issues in International and European Journals.
