Assistant Professor of Strategic Marketing of Tourism Destinations, Department of Tourism Studies, University of Piraeus

Dr. Georgia Zouni, with origins and a strong personal connection to Ancient Olympia and the region of Ilia, is Assistant Professor of Strategic Marketing of Tourism Destinations at the University of Piraeus. She has more than 15 years of experience in tourism strategy, destination branding, tourism education and destination resilience. As a Council of Europe expert, she has undertaken culture and tourism strategic planning for eight Adriatic-Ionian countries, including Greece. She has collaborated with the European Union, ministries, regional and local authorities and tourism organisations, participating in more than 20 European and national projects. She is currently scientific coordinator of European projects exceeding €7.5 million in total budget, focusing on green cultural routes, circular economy and sustainable tourism experiences. She has trained more than 5,500 tourism professionals and 1,000 tourism students, is Co-founder of OpenTourism, a network with 16,000+ members, while her family is active in tourism entrepreneurship in Ancient Olympia.
