Effie Simou is an Associate Professor of Communication and Mass Media in Public Health at the Department of Public Health Policy of PADA.

Her extensive expertise lies in public health policy, strategic communication in health, health risk and crisis communication, scientific literacy and the popularization of scientific knowledge. She is a prolific author and speaker, having contributed to books and articles and delivering impactful presentations at various high-profile events. Notably, she has authored influential books such as “High-Risk Communication: Media, Risk and Public Health,” “Doctor-Patient Communication,” and “Together We Decide: Share decision making and Health”. Her nationwide information campaigns, including initiatives like doctor-patient communication & health literacy (www.medandme.gr) and “Let’s Decide Together About Rheumatoid Arthritis Treatments” (www.decisionaid.uniwa.gr), have made a significant impact in promoting public health awareness.

In addition to her scholarly contributions, she has provided invaluable guidance as a scientific advisor to Ministers of Health (2000-2004; 2008-2012) and as a member of national committees, focusing on public health policies, strategic planning, and the development of monitoring programs to evaluate the efficiency of health services. Notably, she spearheaded the development of the firsts National Action Plans for Public Health: 2008-2012, showcasing her leadership and expertise in shaping public health initiatives.
