Eleni Glypti

Head of the Environmental Inspectorate of Southern Greece, Ministry of Environment and Energy

Eleni Glypti has served since 2018 as the Head of the Environmental Inspectorate for Southern Greece at the Ministry of Environment and Energy. She holds a BSc in Geology from the University of Patras, an MSc in Environmental Modelling, Measurement and Analysis from the University of Nottingham (UK) and graduated with honours from the National School of Public Administration.

Since 2004 she has worked as an environmental inspector, specializing in environmental crime. She is the Greek national coordinator for IMPEL (the European Network for the Implementation and Enforcement of Environmental Law) and deputy national coordinator for Europol’s EMPACT programme. As a scientific coordinator of the LIFE PROWhibit project, she leads efforts to combat waste-related environmental crime. Eleni also pioneered a pilot programme with the EU Satellite Centre to introduce satellite imagery as an advanced environmental inspection tool.
