Evangelos J. Giamarellos-Bourboulis has 413 publications in international peer-reviewed journals with 18,300 citations and h-index 68. He is the chairman of the Hellenic Sepsis Study Group (www.sepsis.gr), as well as of the international organizations, European Shock Society and European Sepsis Alliance. He was awarded the Young Investigator Research Award by the European Society of Clinical Microbiology and Infectious Diseases in 2009. He is the first in the world who described the complex immune dysregulation of severe COVID-19 in an original publication at Cell Host and Microbe in June 2020. Since then, he has designed and coordinates a large-scale clinical program – led by a team of more than 200 researchers in Greece and Italy – for the personalized treatment of severe COVID-19 in collaboration with the Emergency Task Force-COVID of the European Medicines Agency.
