
George Ch. Marinakis
Mayor of Rethymno, President of E.D.E.Y.A.
George Marinakis was born in 1957. He studied Law at the Aristotle University in Thessaloniki and he graduated with honors.
From 1982 until 2022, he was practicing Law in Rethymno and he served as a Treasurer and General Secretary of the Rethymno Bar Association.
He has served in the Local Government since 1998. Initially as Prefectural Councilor and Deputy Prefect and then as Municipal Councilor. In 2007, he was first elected as a Mayor of the Municipality of Rethymno, a position he holds to this day.
In 2024 he was re-elected for the fourth time as President of E.D.E.Y.A. (Association of Municipal Water Supply and Sewerage Enterprises).
Since March 2024, he has been President of the Prefectural Committee of the Municipalities of Crete (P.E.D. of Crete), while he has served as Vice President of the P.E.D. of Crete for two terms. He was also President of S.E.D.I.K. (Association of Olive-Growing Municipalities of Crete) from 2007 until the beginning of 2024, an elected Member of the Policy Advisory Committee (PAC) of the European initiative CIVITAS and has served as a member of the Economic Committee and the Institutions Committee of KEDE.
George Marinakis is married to Anastasia G. Drandaki, Notary and President of the Notary Association of the Court of Appeal of Crete, with whom they have two children, Haris-Notary and George- Lawyer.
