Dr Ioannis Kotsiopoulos was born in Athens, studied Mathematics at the University of Athens, and has an MSc in Decision Technologies and a PhD in Informatics from the University of Manchester. Since 2015 Ioannis worked for the NHS in the UK in roles like that of the Chief Information Officer and is a member of the NHS Digital Academy. He was a founding member of the Greek DRG Institute, Deputy Chief Executive Officer of Konstantopouleio Hospital, Chief Information Officer in Dorset County Hospital and has led many digital transformation initiatives. He has worked in the UK on research and technology projects and has published a large number of research papers and articles in international conferences and journals.
His research interests are located in information systems and the digital transformation of health services as well as quality assurance issues in health. Most recently he served as General Secretary of Health Services of the Greek Ministry of Health from July 2019 to July 2023.
