Michail Chalaris is an Associate Professor at the Department of Chemistry of the Democritus University of Thrace and a Retired Lieutenant General of the Hellenic Fire Service. He serves as Director of the MSc in Quality, Safety, Security, Health and Environmental Management and as Research Director at the institutional “Hephaestus” Laboratory, focusing on Risk, Hazards, Crises and Safety. His work bridges science, civil protection and strategic risk governance, combining academic research with high-level operational leadership experience. He has held senior operational and institutional leadership positions contributing to the development of modern resilience and risk management frameworks in Greece. In 2026, he serves as a member of the Judging Committee of the Greek Risk Management Awards (H.A.RI.M.A.), supporting the promotion of leadership, innovation and European-aligned best practices in risk management.
