
Svein Lokas
Head of the Hellenic Earth Observation Microsatellite Program, ESA
Svein is currently the Greek SmallSat Project Manager at ESA, implementing the Earth Observation Element of the Greek National Satellite Space Project on behalf of the Greek Ministry of Digital Governance. He has substantial experience in Earth Observation satellite projects, having worked on ESA projects such as ERS-2 and Envisat, and the MetOp project as implemented by ESA in cooperation with Eumetsat, and the Copernicus Sentinel-1 project as implemented in partnership with the European Commission. Having worked on Copernicus/GMES since the beginning, Svein has been involved in numerous aspects of the programme, including the implementation of Sentinel-1 from its inception up to launch and commissioning, also in the capacity of Launch Campaign Manager for Sentinel-1A and -1B and the associated launch service procurement. As Head of the Copernicus Space Segment Office before taking on the job as SmallSat Project Manager, Svein was involved in virtually all aspects of Copernicus Space Segment activities with the European Commission. This included launch service procurement for all Copernicus missions, Security issues in coordination with the ESA Security Office, European independency for space components, and preparations of the Sentinels Next Generation procurements.
