Dr. Theodosia Maina
Research Director, Molecular Radiopharmacy, INRaSTES, NCSR «Demokritos»
Dr. Maina has been guiding research for more than 25 years on the development and preclinical evaluation of radiolabeled peptide analogs targeting cancer cells. Candidates have been selected for translation in oncological patients with the ultimate goal to be used in targeted diagnostic imaging and radionuclide therapy – “theranostics” – of human tumors. Dr. Maina has been actively involved in the implementation of national and European scientific projects and research networks related to novel peptide radiopharmaceuticals. She supervised a number of PhD and MS students in Greece and abroad. She has published over 150 peer-reviewed articles, book chapters and proceedings. Several products of this research have been evaluated in well-reputed European clinical centers, with one currently being developed into a theranostic radiopharmaceutical by pharma industry. In 2013, Dr. Maina received the prestigious “Marie Curie Award” for her work on the in vivo stabilization of radiopeptides using peptidase-inhibitors.
