Ioannis Chatzitheodosiou
Honorary Doctor of the University of Piraeus | Honorary Doctor of the Agricultural University of Athens
Ioannis Chatzitheodosiou was born in 1963 in Babalio, Valtos, Aitoloakarnania, to parents of Pontic Greek origin. He studied Economics at the Higher Industrial School of Piraeus — today the University of Piraeus — and served on the Board of the Student Association.
He began his career in the insurance sector as an Insurance Consultant at Nationale Nederlanden. In 1990, he founded the agency “Chatzitheodosiou Insurance,” and in 1998 he established MEGA Insurance Ltd., which in 2006 evolved into MEGA BROKERS SA, one of the leading insurance brokerage companies in Greece over the past 15 years, where he continues to serve as Chairman and Chief Executive Officer. He has also served as a Board Member of the Hellenic Association of Insurance Intermediaries (EADE).
In 1990, he was elected Municipal Councilor and President of the Municipal Council of Agia Varvara, a position to which he was re-elected in 1994. From 1993 to 1996, he served as President of the Western Attica General Hospital (formerly the Infectious Diseases Hospital).
In 2018, he was elected Vice President of the Union Of Hellenic Chambers Of Commerce, while from August 2021 until February 2022 he served as its President.
His institutional career at the Athens Chamber of Tradesmen began in 2001, when he was first elected as a member of the Board of Directors. During the 2012–2014 period, he served as General Secretary of the Chamber and President of Hermes Civil Company of the Athens Chamber of Tradesmen. He has served as President of the Chamber since 2014 and was re-elected in 2017 and again in 2024.
He was appointed Vice President of OPEMED (Organization for the Promotion of Alternative Dispute Resolution Methods) by the current Deputy Prime Minister of Greece, Mr. Pikrammenos. He also serves as Vice President of the Regional Council of the Chambers of Attica and is an honorary member of the Board of the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC).
He is a member of the Economic Chamber of Greece, a Board Member of ELANET (Managing Authority of Attica ESPA Programs), and a Board Member of EESYM (Hellenic Chamber Transport Business Association).
Since April 2025, he has been a member of the Presidium of GSEVEE.
He has been awarded honorary doctorates by the University of Piraeus and the Agricultural University of Athens.
He is married to Chrysanthi Tsichli and has two children, Tasos and Ioanna.
