
"Clinical Studies: The Meteoric Steps and Challenges"
Clinical trials are a key driver of scientific and economic development, while also providing Greek patients with access to innovative treatments. However, despite its potential, Greece continues to lag behind, mainly due to bureaucracy.
According to EFPIA data:
Our country ranks 13th in the EU in terms of newly approved clinical trial applications, while simultaneously receiving a small percentage of European investment in Research and Development.
Meanwhile, there is stagnation in the implementation of key interventions by the Ministry of Health, such as the issuance of a new institutional framework aimed at simplifying the procedures for approving new studies. The same applies to the announced operation of clinical trial offices in selected large hospitals of the National Health System.
However, the Ministry of Health has set a target for Greece to break the barrier of 600 new clinical trials by 2025, and for this number to reach 1,000 by the end of the government’s term.
Internationally, Europe is gradually losing market share in the global clinical trial landscape, as many countries are stagnating or declining despite expectations from the new regulatory framework, and its implementation is proceeding slower than expected, with delays and technical malfunctions.
At the same time, new and emerging technologies such as AI, Big Data, and digital platforms are expected to accelerate studies and improve data collection and analysis, reducing time and labor, resulting in more targeted investments.
All the latest developments in the clinical trials sector will be discussed at the 14th Clinical Research Conference titled “Clinical Trials: The Meteoric Steps and the Challenges,” which will be held on December 4, 2025, by ethosEVENTS, in collaboration with the magazine Pharma & Health Business and the portal virus.com.gr. Closed (Hybrid) Working Meeting
Within the framework of the 14th Clinical Research Conference, a Closed Working Meeting will be held with the participation of Mr. Adonis Georgiadis, Minister of Health.
