Rising prices, uncertainty of coffee producers and exporters, problems in the supply chain, legislation aimed at the “green” transition of the industry, all these have now serious impact on the Coffee market and Consumers as well.

Τhe 2nd Coffee Business Forum, #cofo22, is organized by ethosEVENTS, the specialized portal coffeemag.gr & Coffee+Brunch magazine on 16 of June 2022, hybridly through LiveOn, the integrated platform for Digital Communication and Events, and its innovative 3D exposition and conference center LiveOn Expo Complex.

The 2nd Coffee Business Forum includes  individual speeches and round tables and panels with certain topics:

Panel I: “How does the increase in coffee prices affect consumers and the market?”

Prices in the coffee sector have reached their highest point in the last years globally, mainly due to the extreme weather conditions which affected coffee production. Additional problems that caused prices to skyrocket are the uncertainty that exporters face and complications in the supply chain. In the first panel of the Coffee Business Forum, importers of coffee products, coffee shop owners and institutional and financial officials will comment on the latest developments in the sector, share their thoughts and exchange views, as this new reality has gravely affected the market and end consumers.

Indicative discussion topics:

  • Main factors that caused coffee prices to rise
  • How is the market affected?
  • How do entrepreneurs deal with this situation?
  • What is the impact on consumers?
  • Plans for the support of the coffee sector.

PANEL II: “Coffee, economy & the environment: plastic cups, taxes and coffee waste”

As the government is focused on the green transition to a plastic-free market, from January 1st consumers are charged an additional 0.10 € for the use of plastic cups in delivery and take away. This environmental tax adds to the rise in coffee prices and has initiated a serious debate on how professionals of the coffee sector could contribute to the protection of the environment. In this session, which is dedicated to green growth in the coffee sector, participants will make suggestions and analyze actions and best practices which may bring the desired outcome.

Indicative discussion topics:

  • Legal provisions on environmental levies for single-use plastics in food packaging
  • How do entrepreneurs and consumers react?
  • Solutions to help us change our habits
  • How do big coffee chains manage coffee waste so as to contribute to environmental protection?

PANEL IIΙ: “New consumer habits in the coffee sector”

In the last two years, mainly due to the pandemic and the resulting isolation at home, data reveal that coffee sales in supermarkets have rised, companies have started to focus more on coffee capsules and household products and consumers show an increasing interest in coffee machines. At the same time, there is a turn to the art of the Home Barista while delivery and take away have become indispensable services for all coffee shops. In this session, after presentation of the relevant data, participants will analyze these new trends and share thoughts, ideas and plans regarding a change in strategy brought by the new developments.

Indicative discussion topics:

• What led to these new trends?
• How do companies adapt?
• What will their strategy be from now on?
• What are the new objectives for professionals of the coffee sector?
• Predictions for the immediate future.

Special topic I: Coffee Experience research presentation by the collaborators of the BUY Laboratory of Athens University of Economics and Business.
